In 2007 in Chongqing, there were 14,200 schools of all types, with 5,943,500 students. Among these were 38 ordinary colleges with 32,100 postgraduate students and 413,700 4-year and 3-year program undergraduate students, 28 ordinary technical secondary schools with 107,000 students, and 112 vocational middle schools with 217,500 students. There were also 80 technological schools with 104,300 students, 1,361 ordinary middle schools with 1,834,400 students, and 7,900 primary schools with 2,384,500 students. There were 3,351 kindergartens with 535,500 children, 43 special schools with 11,800 disabled students, and 6 reformatory schools with 208 students. Moreover, there were 1,177 adult schools with 228,400 students (including 8 adult colleges with 128,000 students, 54 adult technical secondary schools with 65,400 students, 59 adult middle schools with 6,913 students and 1,056 adult elementary schools with 28,100 students). Totally, there were 344,500 school staff containing 281,100 teachers. The people involved in education (including students and school staff) took up 19.7% of the entire city population, among which the students took up 18.6%. 2,465 of those are private schools, with 484,700 students and 34,600 staff (22,200 teachers). |
