CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- "I knew it, how could an ordinary case video possibly have 117,000 comments?" "Officer Xu speaks handsomely." "Marriage or not?" On May 6th, due to media coverage of a traffic sign theft case, Xu Wenpeng, a police officer from the Beiquan Police Station of the Beibei District Branch of the Chongqing Public Security Bureau, unexpectedly became popular on the Internet. He appeared on screen for only 5 seconds, yet managed to top the Douyin (Chinese version of TikTok) local hot search list for the entire day.

On the evening of May 8th, the reporter contacted Xu Wenpeng. Regarding his unexpected popularity, he felt pleasantly surprised, considering himself just an ordinary member among thousands of police officers. He mentioned that there are many more excellent police officers, and everyone could also learn about them.

On the day Xu Wenpeng unexpectedly gained popularity on the Internet, he was still participating in new police training. He had only started this extraordinary career in July last year. Xu Wenpeng mentioned that he is a native of Chongqing, born and raised in Dazu. Since childhood, his home has been near the police station. Although he moved twice during his upbringing, coincidentally, both locations were also adjacent to police stations.

It was this twist of fate that quietly sowed a seed about the police in Xu Wenpeng's heart. "When I was a child, there was a time I woke up and found nobody at home. I got scared and started crying. It was a patrolling police uncle who helped me overcome the fear," Xu Wenpeng reminisced. Since then, he harbored a deep longing for the police profession and resolutely chose Chongqing Police College when filling out his college entrance examination preferences.

Before joining the force, like most people, Xu Wenpeng also believed that the police were mainly responsible for tackling major crimes such as felonies. However, once he actually became a police officer, he realized that he was more often dealing with trivial matters.

"I'm currently responsible for case handling, and during my shifts, I also encounter a lot of personal matters. At first, I was a bit puzzled because I felt that these issues were outside the scope of police duties. "Xu Wenpeng later said that an experienced senior officer resolved his confusion. "He told me, 'In fact, these small matters are the big issues in grassroots governance. By addressing the small matters and resolving conflicts in their early stages, society can achieve long-term stability.'"

For the future, Xu Wenpeng believes there is still much for him to learn. He aims to excel in his duties, striving to eradicate evil and promote goodness for the people. (Translated by Liu Xilin, Fathom Language Limited)
