CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- As a major part of a Sino-Canadian joint research program, Er Shun, a female panda from Chongqing Zoo will fly to Canada in late March, and live in the Toronto Zoo and the Calgary Zoo for 10 years, according to Chongqing Zoo on February 25, 2013.

Besides, Ji Li, a female panda from Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Base, will leave for Canada along with Er Shun.

Both mental and physical health indices of Er Shun remain normal to date, according to Guo Wei, chief of the Panda House of Chongqing Zoo.

Canada is to send some special biscuits made from bamboos as the panda's food during the transitional period, said Guo. There is no bitter bamboo in Canada, so it has to purchase bamboos from other countries to feed Er Shun and Ji Li after their arrival.

The zoo is planning several farewell activities for Er Shun, including a farewell ceremony, souvenirs collected from citizens, etc. The specific date and details are unknown yet.
