Canadian PM welcomes Chongqing panda at Toronto airport

Er Shun, the five-year-old female panda from Chongqing and her four-year-old prospective mate Da Mao from Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding on 4:45 a.m. on March 25 left Chengdu Shuangliu Airport for a 10-year research program.

Da Mao and Er Shun arrived at Toronto Pearson International Airport at 11 a.m. local time on March 25. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his wife welcomed the pair at the airport.

About 100 Canadian politicians and well-known persons attended at the welcoming ceremony.

It is reported that before Da Mao and Er Shun, only in 1985 pandas from China had gone to Toronto for 3 months and attracted nearly 750,000 visitors.
