2013-06-09 13:38:09

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- In order to ensure that Chongqing’s cows be fed with top-quality alfalfa, Chongqing Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (Group) Co., Ltd. (CFTEC) is planning to join hands with Chongqing Agriculture Investment Group (CAIG) and build the alfalfa plantation base with an area of 1.9 million mu in Sudan. And the produced alfalfa will be transported back to Chongqing, according to CQFTEC on June 2, 2013.

The alfalfa in Sudan, honored as the "King of Pasture", is the global recognized quality pasture species with the longest cultivation history, widest distribution area, and highest industrialization level in the world.

The alfalfa produced in Sudan boasts the crude protein content as high as 16% to 22%, and can be harvested 10 to 12 times a year. While the alfalfa of north China contains the crude protein only one quarter of the former, and sees only 2 to 3 harvests annually.

In accordance with the plan, infrastructures are to be preliminarily built up, including land leveling, constructions of canal, water spray system and plant, as well as machinery purchase, etc.

And the annual gross profit is expected to reach 600 million US dollars after the whole project is put into production.
