Senior CPC official, Namibian president meet on ties
WINDHOEK, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- China attaches great importance to its relations with Namibia and is willing to make concerted efforts with the African country to consolidate and deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said Monday.
Sun Zhengcai, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, made remarks during a meeting with Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba.
China-Namibia relations have kept a sound momentum of development since the two countries established diplomatic ties, with increasing mutual political trust and fruitful cooperation in such fields as trade, economy and humanity, he said.
The CPC also continues to strengthen friendly cooperation with the SWAPO Party of Namibia, Sun said, adding that both sides conduct increasingly close exchanges at different levels.
A mechanism of exchange and cooperation between Chinese and African youth leaders, initiated by the two countries, has continued to make headway, he said.
Sun said Chongqing, a southwestern city in China, is ready to seek new ways for regional cooperation with Namibia and make contribution to the two countries' friendship.
Pohamba, who is also leader of SWAPO, said Namibia and China have kept an all-round relationship of friendly cooperation, which is manifested not only in the close contact between SWAPO and the CPC, but also in the close cooperation between the two governments and peoples.
Both sides have exchanged frequent high-level visits and their cooperation have yielded fruitful results in recent years, he said, adding that the two countries also keep a sound interaction in international affairs.
Namibia thanks the CPC and the Chinese government for their support for the African country, Pohamba said.
