CHENGDU, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- A three-day High-Tech & Science Expo, which featured cutting-edge instruments developed by military institutions intended for civil use, concluded on Wednesday in Mianyang, southwest China's Sichuan Province.
Among the instruments are clinical infrared microscope and oral medicine CT machine.
The first one was developed by the China North Industries Group Corporation, a weapon producer, and the latter one by the China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP), a Mianyang-based institute which developed the country's atomic bomb and made the maiden test on Oct. 16, 1964.
CAEP started researches for civilian purposes from the 1980s, and established a company called Lier Chemical, which was listed in Shenzhen in 2008. The pesticide the company produced, known for its low-toxicity, low-residue and high efficiency, has been widely used in the U.S. and European countries.
"Integrating development of military and civilian sectors has become a necessary path to promote China's strategic emerging industries' development," said Xu Jianping, deputy chief of the new technology and industry department of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China's planning body.
Xu said NDRC has included such integration as an important part of the country's driving innovative development, and moreover, will try to be engaged in the innovation of system and mechanism, make use of market for resource distribution, and promote resource and fruit sharing between military and civilian sectors.
