CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The State Council officially approved the "72-hour visa-free policy" in Chongqing as a transit city for those travelers (from 45 selected countries) who hold third party country visas and air tickets on October 17th. During the visa-free period, travelers can carry out activities in the administrative areas of Chongqing.

As the only municipality in China's Midwest area, Chongqing has an ideal three-dimensional (air, water and rail) port system and it has seen rapid development in international investment and trade. At present, 10 countries, such as the UK, Japan and Canada have opened consulates in Chongqing. Chongqing has set 14 tourism marketing agencies overseas and has opened 42 international (regional) air routes, Chongqing-Doha, Chongqing-Helsinki, Chongqing-Los Angeles, Chongqing-Bangkok, Chongqing-Singapore, to name a few.

Following Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu, Chongqing became the 5th city to be granted a "72-hour visa-free policy", and it is one of two cities in the Midwest area to be privileged with this policy. (Translated by Zhang Xi, Fathom Language Limited)
