CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing has responded for the first time regarding the publication of a new policy allowing citizens who are only children to have more than one child. Currently citizens are most concerned about the commencement date of the new policy which was announced on the 25th of November 2013.

The related principal of The Chongqing Family Planning Committee replied that there is no concrete timetable for the policy’s implementation as of yet. Currently the agency is actively dealing with the related adjustment and improvement required to implement the policy. Commencement of the new policy will only come into effect after been approved as per regulated procedures.

The new child policy relates that couples can have two children if one of the parents is an only child. It is applicable to couples who simultaneously meet the following three requirements: first of all, one of them is an only child; secondly, they have only one child; thirdly, one of them or both of them have registered residence in Chongqing.

Around 300,000 children are born annually in Chongqing at present. According to calculation, the number will be around 45,000 more within 10 years after the implementation of the new child policy. (Translated by Li Li, Fathom Language Limited)
