CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing is among the first batch of domestic cities for new energy vehicles (NEV) promotion. The purchase of designated NEV will be subsidized with 60,000 yuan at the national level. The city is planning to adopt 10,000 power-driven vehicles and plug-in HEVs (hybrid electric vehicle) within 3 years. Besides the national subsidy, the municipal government will also grant nearly 300 million yuan.

In 2009, China launched the project, selecting 10 cities for trial every year, and each city should put 1,000 NEVs into service. Since then, Chongqing has achieved effective results.

Up to August 2013, the city has adopted 1,933 NEVs and promoted 3,863 NEVs in other cities such as Beijing, Hefei and Kunming. In total, 5,796 Chongqing-made NEVs were serving all across the country. (Translated by Chen Siyan, Fathom Language Limited)
