Chengyu Passenger Line achieves breakthrough

The left-side line of New Zhongliangshan Tunnel in Chongqing, a crucial part of Chengyu (Chengdu-Chongqing) Passenger Line, was open to traffic on December 16, nearly 15 days ahead of schedule.

The whole line is reported to be 308 kilometres long, 190 kilometres shorter than the existing Chengyu (Chengdu-Chongqing) Railway, and the travel time between the two destinations is estimated to be have been shortened to only 1 hour and 15 minutes, 45 minutes faster than CRH trains.

The left and right side lines of the tunnel are respectively 4,124 and 4,119 metres in length, linking Xiyong to Shapingba in Chongqing.

Following the completion of the left side, the right is expected to be in use by the first half of 2014, and the whole tunnel will be completed later in September. (CQNEWS)(Translated by Zhang Yi)
