CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing Geographic Information Centre announced that the city’s first Innovative Map Competition was launched on January 14., 2014. Members of the public are prompted to draw individualised maps of Chongqing, which are also likely to be exhibited and published.

The competition is sponsored by Chongqing Geographic Information Centre and Chongqing Geographic Map Bookstore, with three themes, Beautiful Chongqing, The Way Home, and The Outside World.

Beautiful Chongqing collects individualised maps of Chongqing, also of scenic areas in districts, counties, ancient towns and villages. The themes can be life, special local products, human civilization, folk customs, travel and transport. The beauty of Chongqing can hence be presented through all different kinds of subjects and forms.

The Way Home is tailored for native people of other cities living in Chongqing and Chongqing people in other cities. Considering the approaching Spring Festival, those people living in cities outside of their hometown are encouraged to draw their impression of Chongqing in a map, reflecting their emotion regarding the city.

The Outside World is a collection of maps of tourism destinations and areas en-route (with Chongqing as the origin), to be a guide for people planning to go on self-driving travel during the Spring Festival holiday.

The deadline for registration and delivery of the works is March 1., 2014. Experts in map compilation and collection will be invited to grade the entries into four levels, the first prize, the second prize, the third prize and the prize for participation, which will be awarded a corresponding certificate and trophy. The sponsor will later choose the best works for exhibition and publication.
