New Spring Temple Fairs Map of Chongqing

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) The New Spring Temple Fairs Map of Chongqing, compiled by Chongqing Geographic Map Book Store, was published on January 22., 2014, marking all the venues of temple fairs in Chongqing.

Most regions in China preserve the tradition of visiting temple fairs during Spring Festival. In olden times, when it came to important traditional and religious festivals, people gathered near the temple and carried out a series of activities such as worshiping god, entertaining and shopping.

Since Buddhism was introduced to the Chongqing region in the East Han Dynasty (AD 25 – AD 220), temples of various scales, numbering over 200, have been built in the city. The well-known ones are Luohan Temple in Yuzhong District, Shuangguitang Temple in Liangping County and Ciyun Temple in Nan’an District.

Changshou Ancient Town (in Changshou District) will hold an all-embracing Spring Festival Fair (Naochunhui), from January 30. to February 14. Zhongshan Ancient Town (in Jiangjin District) will hold a ‘Thousand-Metre Banquet’ on January 27.; Pianyan Ancient Town (in Beibei District) will put on dragon dance, lion dance and folk culture exhibition from January 31. to February 2.; and the temple fair in Daping, the main urban area is to last until February.
