CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On 31 May, under the watch of Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and President of the Board of Trade, six British firms signed an agreement with a local firm in Chongqing to jointly develop a cultural and ecological tourism project.

Cable came to Chongqing for the first time and led a commercial delegation of 15 British firms, searching for further collaboration opportunities in architecture, ecology and urbanisation construction.

Atkins, Aedas, Haskoll, Priestman, Savills and the Philippines Rand are the six British architectural firms that signed the agreement with a Chongqing company on a cultural and ecological tourism project for protecting the ancient Gelao culture and local ecological system along the Dasha River in Guizhou Province, .

In May, McLaren, a top British racecar producer, opened the sixth showcase in Chongqing, with the anticipation that McLaren’s sales in China will take up 10% of its global sales in 2014.

Cable sees a promising outlook for Chongqing-UK collaboration in auto fields. In 2014, GKN has determined to invest USD 43 million to enlarge the GKN Drive Shaft (Chongqing) Co., Ltd., a joint venture between GKN and Chang’an Auto Group, especially the production scale of drive shaft and parts. Action speaks louder than words. The UK has confidence in its auto market in western China. (Translated by Chen Siyan, Fathom Language Limited)
