Former Jiu San Society vice chairman cremated

BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhua) -- The body of Wang Wenyuan, former vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiu San Society, one of China's eight non-Communist parties, was cremated in Beijing on Sunday.

Wang died of an illness on June 16 at the age of 83.

In addition to his post at the society, Wang also served as vice chairman of the ninth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Chinese leaders Xi Jinping, Zhang Dejiang, Yu Zhengsheng, Liu Yunshan, Wang Qishan and Zhang Gaoli attended the cremation ceremony at Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery in west Beijing, said an official statement.

It described Wang as "a renowned social activist, an outstanding leader of the Jiu San Society and a close friend of the Communist Party of China."
