Karst landscape in Jinfo Cave

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) In the Chongqing column of the Chinese National Geography magazine published early this year, karst landscape was defined as one of the three features of Chongqing’s natural geography. On 2 July, Chongqing Geomatics Centre and Chongqing Geography Map Bookstore published the Chongqing Map of Karst Caves, introducing the fantastic underground world of Chongqing to readers.

Massive areas of limestone are to be found in south, southeast and northeast of Chongqing, and the karst landscape is well-known for its ruggedness, strangeness and seclusion.

Karst cave, as one of the major karst landscapes, is Chongqing’s geographic feature. Most of the caves are connected with heavenly pits, earthly ravines and cenote. The map contains 43 karst cave scenic areas, which have been well developed for tourists.

"Karst caves unknown to the public or undiscovered in Chongqing are uncountable. There could be more wonderlands to be discovered”, said Zhang Haipeng, a member of staff at the Geomatics Centre. (Translated by Chen Siyan, Fathom Language Limited)
