The Gansu provincial government has just published its Key Tasks for 2014 on the Medical and Healthcare System, and is raising its subsidies for medical coverage.

The forms of medical insurance that it covers are basic medical insurance for urban workers and residents, and a new type of cooperative medical care system in rural areas, with the subsidy going up 40 yuan ($6.46) per person for both urban and rural area, to 320 yuan, and the individual payment going up 20 yuan.

Hospital expenses are covered by around 70 - 75 percent for urban and rural residents with insurance. The province expects to have 22 county hospital pilot reforms before August to help residents and 19 other pilot hospital reforms starting at the end of January 2015.
