Chongqing (CQNEWS) The Chongqing Culture Heritage Institute recently made an important discovery during an archeological excavation. The portrait brick tomb, thought to date back to the Ming Dynasty, is the first of its kind discovered in Chongqing.

Archaeologists stated that the discovery fills significant gaps in Chongqing’s history during this period, and provides materials to better understand and research the Ming Dynasty’s funeral customs, religions and carving arts. Additionally, the tomb appears to be preserved relatively well, with both the portrait brick and the tomb remains reportedly in good condition, offering worthwhile materials for the study of funeral, culture and art at that time.
