The Chinese MPV sales chart in July was recently released by the China Automobile Industry Association. It showed that three kinds of MPV, made by SAIC-GM-Wuling and Dongfeng Liuqi ranked in the top three, taking up nearly 60 percent of Chinese market.

With the development of urbanization, more and more consumers regard family convenience as a first consideration. That’s why MPV, famous for its abundant space and large capacity, has become so popular among Chinese consumers.

“The Hongguang series, produced by SAIC-GM-Wuling, is the first MPV which has broken through sales of one million in China and embraces more than 1.48 million consumers now. We can even say that it is Liuzhou alone that took the lead and re-shaped the Chinese MPV market,” said Lu Zhao, the general engineer of Liuzhou Industry and Information Committee.

Lu Zhao pointed out that the MPV market was not prominent before 2010. However, Wuling and Dongfeng liuqi sensed the change of demands and updated their production lines. Then they took the first step to figure out their mainly developed product, an MPV which can hold 7 people with a good design both for family and business.

Because of a reasonable price, MPVs made in Liuzhou sell well to ASEAN, South Africa and Africa. According to Liuzhou Customs, Liuzhou has exported 4197 automobile products in the first three months, worth an estimated 210 million yuan ($34 million).

Liuzhou, where four of the largest automobile production bases of China are located, has a plan that by 2015, the production of automobiles will hit 2.5 million in total. The government will take further measures to promote industrial upgrading, and strengthen the cooperation with European countries in economy, technology and services. The government will also adopt more advanced technologies from Europe to promote the competitiveness of Liuzhou’s automobile industry.
