The South Gate of the City Wall in Xi’an, Shaanxi province will be opened to the public on Sept 6, Xi’an Daily reported on Sept 4.

On Sept 6, the cultural and historical street at the South Gate will also be opened to the public; and its underground parking lot, which provides 500 parking spaces and links to the subway’s Yongding Station, will be put into use. Yuecheng Museum will also hold an exhibition themed as "Millennium City Centenary Affection” to tell the history of the City Wall’s preservation.

In addition, the water level of the moat’s exhibition section will increase to its original height, allowing pleasure-boats to flow along a tourist lane. A symphony concert named New Silk Road-Chang’an will be performed under the direction of Tan Dun, an Academy Award winner for ‘Best Original Score’.

A culture-oriented travel program, Intoxicating Chang’an, will also be performed in public on Sept 8. Combining 3D images and live action, it will display the greeting rites of the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907).

The South Gate, originally named Yongning Men (Forever Peaceful Gate), is the oldest gate in Xi’an’s City Wall that was built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and the most complete one after restoration.
