Liucheng’s silkworm-raising industry is thriving. Mulberry fields can be seen everywhere in Liucheng county.

He Xiuling, a 46-year-old farmer in Tangjintun, a small village in Fengshan town, Liucheng, plants 12 mu (0.8 hectares) of mulberry leaf which will bring her more than 100,000 yuan ($16,274) profit this year. “90 percent of our villagers are raising silkworms,” said He. She was one of the founders of the silkworm-raising association in Tangjintun village, teaching farmers silkworm-raising techniques.

It is said that 175 families in Tangjintun are raising silkworms now. There are more than 1,100 mu mulberry fields in the village. The income of the silkworm-raising here reached 6.8 million yuan ($1.1 million) last year. The income per capita of silkworm-raising was 6,000 yuan last year, accounting for two-thirds of the total income per capita.

Fengshan town has invested 400,000 yuan to build standardized silkworm-raising factories to promote the local silk industry. Advanced facilities can provide a suitable environment for raising silkworms and improve the efficiency and productivity. Fengshan town also plans to build a mulberry-raising base to produce high-quality mulberry trees.

There are currently more than 150,000 mu mulberry fields in Liucheng county . The annual output of silkworms has reached 16,000 tons which is valued at 670 million yuan. There are also five silk processing enterprises in Liucheng, with an annual value reaching 540 million yuan.

Liucheng county seized the opportunity when China changed the distribution of mulberry production from east to west. Thus Liucheng’s silkworm-raising industry is booming now.

Many enterprises also became successful by processing silk in Liucheng. Guangxi Ritian Silk Company is one of them. It is improving its processing technology and building its own brand to promote the business now.
