Xi’an’s tourism income exceeds 700b yuan

Xi’an, capital city of Shaanxi province, received more than two million travellers during the Mid-Autumn Festival vacation from Sept 6 to 8, gaining over 700 million yuan ($114 million) tourism income and over 36 billion yuan by selling commodities, Xi’an Daily reported.

During the vacation, the city opened new scenic spots to attract travellers, such as the South Gate Square, the Moon Town Cultural Square and the Weng Town Cultural Square. The 7th West China Cultural Industry Expo also organized a series of cultural travelling activities, in addition to the “Autumn Scenery Admiration, Poetry Recitation” held in Cuihua Mountain and the 2nd Dragon-Boat Open Race held in Baqiao District.

The better-known scenic spots, such as the Terra-Cotta Warriors of the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC) and the City Wall of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) also attracted a growing number of travellers.
