An exhibition showing the life and artistic achievements of Yu Youren (1879 - 1964) was held during the National Day holiday in Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi province, which was the hometown of Yu.

The 10-day exhibition from Oct 4 through 13 was sponsored by the Shaanxi provincial department of culture and Xi'an Jiaotong University and held in the Xi'an Jiaotong Museum. Among other pieces, it publicly displayed Yu's diary manuscript of Looking to the Mainland for the first time.

Yu, a well-known Chinese politician, educator and calligrapher, was born in 1879 in Sanyuan county, Shaanxi province, and wrote the well-known diary poem Looking to the Mainland on Jan 24, 1962, while in Taiwan.

The sponsors said the exhibition was held to commemorate the 135th anniversary of Yu's birth and the 50th year since his death in order to carry forward his patriotic spirit.

The exhibition was in four parts and displayed 25 items of Yu's calligraphic works and relics of his life.
