Fan Daidi, a professor at the Northwest University in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, won the Achievement Award at the Hou Debang Chemical Science and Technology Award Ceremony held in Beijing on Sept 23.

Fan, the first Shaanxi professor to win this award, mainly studies biochemical engineering in which she got a doctorate degree in biomaterials and biomedicine. Her crowning achievement is human-like collagen, which has applications in the production of biomedicine, tissue engineering materials, cosmetics and health products, and has won the State Technological Invention Award.

Fan is also the general engineer in Xi’an Giant Biogene Ltd, the only producer of human-like collagen and a high-tech enterprise founded in 2000, specializing in gene and biomaterial engineering.

Hou Debang Chemical Science and Technology Award, founded by the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China in 1996, includes achievement, innovation and youth awards, and is named after Hou Debang who made a great contribution to China’s chemical industry, science and technology.
