CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing Peking Opera Troupe's new Peking Opera 'The Golden Cangue' was recently invited to participate at the 16th China Shanghai International Arts Festival and will perform on October 28th.

'The Golden Cangue' is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Eileen Chang. It told the twisted life of the heroine Cao Qiqiao struggling with her desires. It combines the traditional essence of Peking Opera with modern dramatic expression.

Since its introduction to the stage at the end of 2010, 'The Golden Cangue' has won awards for 'Excellent Drama', 'Excellent Director' and 'Excellent Performance' at the 12th China Drama Art Festival and at the 2009-2011 Chongqing Stage Arts Awards.
