In recent years, Karamay has paid significant attention to meteorological disaster monitoring and prediction, significantly improving the accuracy rate and precision degree. To date, Karamay has become the first city in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region that has realized meteorological modernization.

According to Ji Xinqi, vice-director of the Karamay meteorological bureau, since 2013, Karamay has focused on improving its meteorological modernization development in four areas, namely disaster prevention and mitigation, forecast and prediction, response to climate change, and resources development and utilization. All four areas have reached a high level.

In the next step, the Karamay meteorological departments will establish a stronger early-warning information platform in collaboration with the government’s alert command centers. More meteorological information will be delivered to all the communities and citizens. By the end of 2015, an advanced meteorological system for forecast and prediction will cover the whole city, countryside and the main oil-production operation zones in Karamay, Ji said.
