Apples industry in Gansu sees a boom

The town of Zhengning, near the city of Qingyang, Gansu province harvested around 138,000 tons of apples during September and October, worth 450 million yuan ($73.62 million), for an increase of 4,800 tons and nearly 100 million yuan over last year, after focusing more on its fruit industry and planted 600 hectares in orchards this year.

It rates more than 85 percent of its fruits as high quality and says that it expects the fruit industry to have 410 million yuan in sales this year for an increase of 600 million yuan from last year. Fruit farmers' monthly incomes are expected to be almost 2,000 yuan, an increasing of 90 yuan, with total fruit farming incomes accounting for 37-40 percent of total incomes locally.

Zhengning is looking for ways to promote its fruit, through better industrial practices, increased cultivation, and industrial chains, and it has improved management for better brand building accompanied with greater publicity.
