According to the Kunming railway bureau, the Mengzi-Hekou Railway will start operation in December, Chuncheng Evening News reported.

“The Mengzi-Hekou Railway will start operation in the beginning of this December, which means that it will take only six and a half hours to go from Kunming in Yunnan province to Hekou in Shandong province,” said Zhang Caichun, deputy Party secretary of the Kunming railway bureau.

The Kunming railway bureau has made a big contribution to the construction of Yunnan. It has promoted railway construction in Yunnan with an investment of 16.5 billion yuan ($2.7 billion). Recently, the demand for cargo transportation has increased significantly due to growth in the economy and development along the railway. The new rail line will provide better service to companies along the railway. Meanwhile, the new rail line will also provide convenience to passengers traveling between Mengzi and Hekou.

Mengzi North Station is about 10 kilometers away from the city center, and it is not convenient for passengers to take trains. In regards to this, Zhang explained that the Mengzi North Station will be a freight train station. Meanwhile, a new station will be constructed near the center of Mengzi city.
