Liuzhou’s newsstands install free Wi-Fi

According to the Liuzhou postal branch of the Guangxi Postal Company on Oct 29, Liuzhou residents can enjoy free Wi-Fi at newspaper kiosks in the key areas of Liuzhou, Guangxi. It is estimated that 80 percent of newspaper kiosks in Liuzhou will have free Wi-Fi by the end of this year.

The action of installing free Wi-Fi is the prelude to transforming the newsstands into integrated service platforms. With the arrival of the information age and the popularity of the Internet, the traditional newspaper retail business is shrinking unceasingly. The newspaper kiosks have suffered a serious impact as sales terminals for paper media.

Liuzhou is now using Beijing’s experience as a reference in the transformation of its newspaper kiosks. The new kiosks will provide many handy services for the public, such as a telephone fee charging service, business tickets, express deliveries, government notice announcements, lottery sales and free Wi-Fi equipment.

Already a total of 50 newspaper kiosks have installed free Wi-Fi for the convenience of Liuzhou residents. These kiosks are in roads such as the Yufeng Road, Longcheng Road, Bayi Road, Guangchang Road and Jiefang North Road. People can receive a password through WeChat to log in for free Wi-Fi.
