NANNING, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Nine people were killed and five others injured Sunday as a minibus fell off a cliff in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, local authorities said.

The accident happened at about 3 p.m. in Du'an Yao Autonomous County in Hechi City, when 14 people aboard the eight-seat minibus were traveling on a mountain road in rain, the county government said in a statement.

Four passengers were killed at the scene and five died later after treatment failed. The five injured have been sent to the county people's hospital.

An initial investigation blamed slippery road and low visibility for the deadly accident.

A further investigation into the cause of the accident is under way.
