On 8th November, at the China Three Gorges Museum, a 14m long scroll of the Yangtze River was the latest exhibit.

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On 8th November, Liu Sanyu's Chinese Paintings Exhibition opened to the public at the China Three Gorges Museum. Exhibits, including over 80 paintings, represented the magnificent scenery of Chongqing.

Liu Sanyu, now residing in Chengdu, is a native of Chongqing, adept in the art of Chinese landscape paintings, figures and flowers. Liu is known as the 'Genius of Sichuan' (Shuzhong Guaicai), especially proficient in Chinese Jiaomo Hua ink work. Jiaomo Hua is a special ink, more diluted than standard inks, and was in fashion during the Yuan Dynasty (AD1271-1368). Though not considered as an essential aspect of traditional Chinese painting, Jiaomo Hua ink work has recently drawn more and more attention in the arts world due to the ink's purity as well as exquisite gradation.

Liu’s original paintings embody the skills of sketching, with special attention drawn to the well-known Chinese mountains and Rivers. A 14m long scroll of the Yangtze River, completed in several months, is a large scale work Liu painted during his journey along the Three Gorges. The scroll represents an almost complete picture of the Three Gorges along the Yangtze River. "The work is a mix of my images based on sketching I made at the time. Images like the Yanyudui, already submerged under the water, reflect my homesickness."

The exhibition can be visited for free until 13th November. (Translated by Chen Siyan, Fathom Language Limited)
