Half a century ago, a man named Liu Guojiang fell in love with Xu Chaoqing, a widow who was 10 years older than him. They left their village and lived in seclusion, deep in the Simian Mountains so as to elude rumors. Liu took his lifetime to construct a ladder of over 6,000 stairs on the steep cliff so that Xu could safely go outside of the mountains. Although the two lovers passed away years ago, their love story has moved more and more people, with the ladder being a 'Holy Place' for lovers. (Translated by Chen Siyan, Fathom Language Limited)
