Centennial guqin "sounds" once again

2015-09-30 09:02:00

On the evening of September 26th, in Three Gorges Museum, a performer was spotted performing the guqin.

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On the evening of September 26th, in an activity held in Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, "Songfeng" – a guqin with a history of over 100 years “sounded” once again.

According to a staff member of the museum, the "Songfeng" being played that night is the first guqin to sound once again among the 48 guqins in the collection of the museum.

The former owner of the guqin is Robert Van Gulik – a world-renowned sinologist from the Netherlands. The whole body of it is flawless.

The guqin is one of the twin guqins, of which the other was also named "Songfeng" once belonging to Chongqing guqin player Yang Shaowu in the Republic of China period.

Unexpectedly, the respective owners of the twin guqins, residing separately in two regions and unbeknownst to each other, donated them to Three Gorges Museum after nearly 70 years, reuniting the twin gugins once again. Now, they are on display in the "Exhibition of Robert Van Gulik's Private Collection Donated by the Van Gulik's" exhibition room that is open to the public for free.
