On October 10th, in Meishi Academy of Chongqing University, the creation and shooting team of "Seven Days" directed by Xing Jian – a graduate of the academy that has won the "Best Art Contribution Award" at the Montreal World Film Festival are making a stage pose together.

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- According to news from the 15th Anniversary Celebration of Meishi Academy of Chongqing University on October 10th, directed and created by graduates of the academy, silent film "Seven Days" reflecting the loneliness of mankind won the "Best Art Contribution Award" at the 39th Montreal World Film Festival held in this September. The film is set to be shown nationwide within the year.

Xing Jian has become the 7th Chinese director to win an award at the festival following famous directors such as Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou.

The black and white silent film with a length of about 73 minutes displayed the deep loneliness and endless greediness of mankind. There is a lonely old man living in Changbai Mountains with continuous snow. In order to divert himself from the loneliness, he made a hole on the icy lake for fishing and then set the fish free. Until one day, a bird flew into his house. In order to keep the bird, he killed the fish to feed the bird. Later, a child came to his house, and the old man killed the bird for the child to eat. However, the child disappeared in the end.

"Originally my idea of shooting this from is from a piece of news I read in 2008 that an old man living alone had spend 500,000 yuan setting up a tent for the cat accompanying her." Xing Jian, the director of the film and a 2005 student of the Photography Specialty, Meishi Academy of Chongqing University, expressed that he felt quite shocked when seeing the news, so he wanted to discuss the topic on the empty-nest elderly and the loneliness of mankind.

It was not until "he had understood well from the first scene to the last scene of the film" that Xing started to shoot the film in March 2013. After collecting 1.3 million yuan here and there, Xing led the team formed of graduates of the academy to conduct the 15-day film shooting in the Changbai Mountains.
