The Jiangyu Passenger Ship is a permanent memory of many old Chongqing-ers. The picture is a file photo of Jiangyu No. 22 navigating on the river.

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- According to the news from Chongqing Marine Safety Administration on February 1st, fewer passengers are choosing to go on a long journey by water due to the opening of expressways and railways along the Yangtze River, and the ferry business has become increasingly depressed in recent years. As a result, all the trans-provincial long-distance ordinary ferries on the Yangtze River within the jurisdiction of Chongqing have suspended ferry service for the first time during the Spring Festival Rush of 2016.

This means that if one wants to commute between Chongqing and the provinces and cities along the Yangtze River by ship in the future, the only choice is to take a cruise, which is also one of the important directions for the development of transportation along the Yangtze River.

What's more, despite that all the trans-provincial long-distance ordinary ferries on the Yangtze River in Chongqing have suspended ferry service for the first time during the Spring Festival Rush of 2016, there are still over 170 passenger ferries, short-distance passenger ships and ro-ro passenger ships in operation on the Chongqing section of the main line of the Yangtze River. Over 200,000 passengers have been transported during the first week of the Spring Festival Rush, which is basically the same as that of 2015. (Translated by Tang Zhiqiang, Fathom Language Limited)
