In 1998, Gao went to the US for the first and decided to keep a foothold in Manhattan and start a business of her own. From 1998 to 2005, she was very busy running about China and the US as she still had a part-time job at a domestic media company.

On the new continent, when she was working for The China Press, Gao's career as a reporter entered a completely new period. She reported a series of major news events. Although she was quite busy, she was indeed "suffering while enjoying". She experienced such major events in person as witnessing the American Presidential Election at zero distance and the grand occasion of Chinese president' visit to the US and the follow-up reports on the financial crisis attacking the US. She exclaimed, "How lucky I am!"

Although Gao has already taken the American nationality, she always believes that she "has a China Heart" and is a Chongqing-er forever. "The mountains and waters of Chongqing have nurtured me and given me the quality of persistence, diligence and toughness. Chongqing girls' unique generous and upright nature hashelped me make many friends. I'm quite grateful to my hometown. Best wishes to the people in my hometown," said Gao.
