On the afternoon of April 16th, two autonomous cars produced by Chang’an Auto arrived at the Beijing Branch of Chang’an Auto in Beijing’s Fangshan District, marking the success of the country’s first long-distance road test of driverless cars.

Starting on the morning of April 12th, the two driverless cars traveled approximately 2,000 kilometers in five days, covering a total of three expressways: Baotou-Maoming Expressway, Lianyungang-Huoerguosi Expressway and Beijing-HK-Macao Expressway.

The two autonomous cars performed tests such as running at speeds of 80km/h, autonomous driving at a speed of 120km/h, continuous turns, night driving, going through long tunnels and handling traffic congestion.

“All the data of this road test has been collected,” said the chief engineer of Chang’an Auto. “Through the 2,000km-test, we have collected not only the road traffic signals in different cities and provinces, but also the problems our cars met in the continuous tunnels between Chongqing and Xi’an”.
