CHONGQING(CQNEWS)--On the evening of April 24th, an E-sports warband from China won the title of DOTA 2 (“dao ta” in Chinese, one of the world’s most popular E-sports games) of “ESL ONE” Manila Championships in Philippines’ Manila and an award of 100,000 US dollars. When the news was sent back to China, the E-Sports world went crazy immediately. After all, China’s DOTA 2 world hasn’t held its head high for such a long time. The warband taking a stand for the glory of Chinese E-sports world is called Wings from Chongqing.

The contestants have an annual income of 500,000 yuan

Maybe many DOTA 2 players don’t know Zhang Yiping, Li Peng, Chu Zeyu, Zhou Yang and Zhang Ruida, but their IDs (code names in the game) – y’innocence, iceice, shadow, Tiaodao Tiaodao, faith_bian have enjoyed a widespread fame in the E-sports world. They are the first team warriors of Wings, among whom the youngest is 18 and the oldest is 24, with an average age of only 20, which is the youngest team among all DOTA 2 warbands in China so far. As Xie Zhouyu said, “Still a huge space for improvement, they represent the future of China’s E-sports as the prime age for a professional player is around 25.”

The five, respectively from Sichuan, Jiangxi, Hebei, Henan and Hubei came to Chongqing to pursue their dreams. Despite their young ages, almost all of them started to practice E-sports at the age of 10, so they all are battle-scarred “veterans”. According to Xie, they all have signed a contract with Wings for three years to become professional players with an annual income of around 400,000 to 500,000 yuan. “Though the income is not very high among professional E-sports players, entering Wings is not just for money for them. As many people said, our win is the story of “the dream pursuers taking down the money makers”.” (Translated by Tang Zhiqiang, Fathom Language Limited)
