“Trivia” about Chongqing

2016-12-05 11:15:44

There are four human-shaped sculptures on the two ends of Shibanpo Bridge. Respectively representing spring, summer, autumn and winter, they were created by the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. As the original version was too unrestrained, clothes were added to them in a later revision.

As to how Chongqing got its name, there are historical stories too. After Zhao Shen, Emperor Xiaozong of the Southern Song Dynasty, took the throne, he conferred upon his third son (Zhao Dun) the title of Prince Gong, who ascended the throne in the 16th year of Chunxi reign. Half a year later, the Gong County was upgraded to become the Gong Prefecture, which made him feel the two events were “double happiness”, so he renamed the prefecture as “Chongqing Prefecture”. Since then, the place has been called Chongqing.

After reading the above information, do you feel suddenly enlightened? By the way, do you know other “trivia” about Chongqing? (Translated by Tang Zhiqiang, Fathom Language Limited)
