CHONGQING(CQNEWS)--Recently, many citizens’ Moments were occupied by “Chongqing Dog”. What’s the background of “Chongqing Dog”? Actually, “Chongqing Dog” has many names and the formal name is East Sichuan Hound. Recently, the reporter went to the Chinese East Sichuan Hound Protection & Research Center in Yubei District and met with the local dog breeder.

Pedigree Chongqing local dogs are even rarer than pandas

The East Sichuan Hound has quadrate head, big ears, thick and short mouth, firm and strong lower jaw and developed masseter. It has well developed body muscles, a flexible body and is as quick as a fast hound. Under normal circumstances, East Sichuan Hound does not like barking, but when it is barking, its voice is deep and powerful, which is a good deterrent.

According to Wang Peng of the Protection & Research Center, Pedigree East Sichuan hounds are mostly brown and dark colored. “At present, the number of Chongqing Dogs is less than 1,600, even fewer than that of pandas. (Editor’s note: according to the report of Sichuan Provincial Government in September 2016, there are 1,864 wild pandas in China.)”

Originated in the Han Dynasty, killing German shepherd dog

According to Wang Peng, the East Sichuan Hound is widely known recently, but it actually has a very long history. The Protection & Research Center’s study finds that a lot of archaeological excavation materials about Chongqing and surrounding areas show that the dog breed originated in the Han Dynasty, with a history of more than 2,000 years.

The Chongqing Dog has a big head, square forehead, wide mouth and wrinkled face, which looks very majestic. The dog is very obedient and loyal to his owner and never yields to invasion, so the dog also has excellent instincts to protect territory.

To prove Chongqing dog is as excellent as the world’s famous dogs

Both Wang Peng’s grandpa and father had East Sichuan Hounds, so this dog breed accompanied him as he grew up.

After entering university, he found many people sharing the same hobby and interest, so he established an East Sichuan Hound Protection & Research Center to combine his hobby and career.

Recently, Wang Peng has submitted materials to the most authoritative international dog breed certification body. He hopes that the East Sichuan Hound can be known across China and even the world by his action, which can prove that the local dog breed in Chongqing is as excellent as the world’s famous dogs abroad.
