Partners Stephen Chow & Hark Tsui’s have had a passion for Journey to the West for many years.

In last Spring Festival holiday, Stephen Chow brought Chongqing film fans The Mermaid. One year later, he returned with Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back. But this time, he was the producer and invited his friend Hark Tsui to be the director. The Journey to the West, jointly produced by the “King of Comedy” and the “King of Chinese swordplay film”, presents entirely subversive scenes.

For instance, there is a scene where Tang Monk kneels to Sun Wukong. Stephen bluntly spoke that scene had a different meaning. Tang Monk is a tolerant and wise man and this scene has a profound meaning. Stephen disclosed at the site: “I hope there will be a Journey to the West III, which may not present the future, but the past stories, to make a series of movies.”

Har Tsui said that he wanted to film Journey to the West 30 years ago and it was finally realized. There is a Journey to the West in everyone’s mind. “The previous films are more from the perspective of mortals, but we wanted to present it in a more unrestrained way.”
