CHONGQING(CQNEWS)--La La Land was released on February 14, and it realized the box-office receipts over 70 million yuan on its first day. The movie was shown at the "golden times" in local cinemas where the front seats were filled with people. It is an “icebreaker” for the musical film which is good but has a small audience.

Box-office exceeds other love films

This film has become very popular during the award season. It has been nominated for seven prizes in the Golden Globe Award, and won five prizes including the best film prize at the 70th Annual BAFTA Awards 2017. According to incomplete statistics, the film has won over 100 prizes around the world. In addition, the film has been nominated for 14 Oscars to be held by the end of this month, equal to the nomination record of Titanic. So, it is worthy of being the top-seeded player for the Oscar.

La La Land opened on February 14 with other two domestic love films. According to the box-office receipts, it earned over 71 million yuan on opening day, exceeding other films playing at the same time.

Typically, musical films do not receive satisfactory box-office receipts in China. The Rooftop, directed and acted by Jay Chou in 2013, remains the box-office champion with 130 million yuan. Insiders indicated that La La Land will soon exceed The Rooftop in box-office receipts.
