Origin of names of nine major districts in Chongqing

Nan’an District
The south bank (Nan’an) of Yangtze River. It was named Nan’an District from Diwu (the fifth) District in 1955.
Beibei District
A megalith on the river. The megalith on the Jialing River was called “Bei”(碚) by the ancients and the first “Bei” means “north of Chongqing”. It was officially named Beibei District in 1955.
Ba'nan District
The part of Baxian County which is located south of the Yangtze River. In 1995, the towns of Baxian County were at the south of Yangtze River. Some sub-districts and towns of Jiulongpo District formed the Ba'nan District. (Translated by Ma Shuangshuang, Fathom Language Limited)
