A work conference promoting the bike-sharing services of Ofo, a startup from Beijing specializing in bike-sharing equipment and software, was recently held in Wenjiang district.

Ma Guangzhong, deputy director of Wenjiang district, attended the conference where staff members from Ofo shared their plan for providing bike-share services in the Wenjiang district.

The plan revealed that four operational staff members and 30 maintenance staff members will join the work in Wenjiang to ensure the quality of the services. Some 53 bike-share stations are planned to be constructed around schools, communities, office areas and tourism sites. Around 10,000 to 20,000 bikes will be issued for the bike-sharing stations during the first stages of implementation as estimated for the needs of the Wenjiang district.

Official statistics show that an extra 100,000 public smart bicycles are set to hit the pavement in Chengdu during 2017, as the city is moving towards an ever-greener approach to public transportation.

First introduced last November, the Sichuan capital‘s fleet of public bikes will hit a quarter of a million this year, as run by six different operators including Mobike, Blue-Gogo and Ofo.

The smart system used to operate the bikes involves users downloading relevant apps unlock them. Once users have arrived at their destinations, they can relock the bikes, at which point payment is automatically deducted via the app.
