Zhongshansi Road in history

Time flies. From the time when Chongqing was opened as a commercial port to the early stage of the Republic of China, from the War of Resistance to liberation and from the foundation of new China to 1997 when Chongqing became a municipality, Zhongshansi Road experienced and witnessed the development of Chongqing in the modern and contemporary history of China. Zhongshansi Road, from beginning to end, tolerated and accepted the change of every era.

According to the historical record, Chongqing was zoned as a commercial port in 1890 in accordance with the Supplementary Provisions to Yantai Treaty signed between the governments of the Qing Dynasty and Britain.

Zhongshansi Road saw a whirlwind of foreign churche activities. French churches and schools were established here, becoming distinct features of that era. Over 100 years later, the missionary school, the Qiujing School, continues to benefit people to this day.

Qiujing Middle School, formerly the Qiujing School, is located in the most bustling part of Zhongshansi Road. This old street shows its unique charm because of the existence of young students.
