PARIS, March 21 (Xinhua) -- The investigation by France's National Financial Office into Francois Fillon, a right-wing candidate for the French presidential election 2017, and his wife Penelope Fillon, has been widened to include "aggravated fraud, forgery and use of forgeries," the French press reported on Tuesday.

The investigators wanted to determine whether the couple Fillon have established false documents to justify the wages paid to Penelope, according to information confirmed by the French radio station Europe 1.

The judges also seized "sheets, signed by Penelope Fillon, including different calculations of hours worked," Europe 1 said.

The inquiry had targeted the activities of Penelope Fillon's wife and her children in the National Assembly, also concerning the costumes offered to Francois Fillon, according to Europe 1.
