CHONGQING(CQNEWS)--The escalators are always turned off due to rain, resulting that passengers can only go upstairs. However, according to Chongqing Rail Transit recently, the escalators outside railway stations will be installed with canopies and some have been completed to be convenient for citizens, and improve service quality.

Why escalators are turned off in rainy days?

Why the escalators outside the railway stations are not in service? According to Zhang Yanzhen, deputy director of the Operation Management Center of Chongqing Rail Transit, there is small contact surface for shoes and escalator’s comb plate, and the rain water will form a layer of water film on comb plate, so they will temporarily turn off the escalators outside based on these facts to avoid slipping. Moreover, rain water flowing into the case of escalator would cause more faults, affecting the safety.
