A delegation from Karamay, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, recently attended an international petroleum and petrochemical forum in Beijing to increase the city’s global profile in the indistry.

The 17th China International Petroleum & Petrochemical Technology and Equipment Exhibition (CIPPE) was held in Beijing from March 20 to 22.

The industry gathering provided a platform for exchanges of information, new product shows and publicity for new technologies.

The three-day event, covering 90,000 square meters of floor space, attracted 1,800 businesses from 45 countries and regions.

It was the fourth time Karamay had sent a delegation to the CIPPE, at which an 18-square-meter booth displayed for the first time petroleum equipment from the Chinese city. It also promoted a smaller exhibition to be held in Karamay in September.

The delegates talked with officials from established companies and invited them to Karamay’s event.

“We may take a leaf out of Beijing’s book about exhibition ideas, to make ours more professional,” said Xu Jianhui, vice-mayor of Karamay.

The biennial Karamay International Petroleum & Petrochemical Equipment Exhibition is a major meeting for the industry in western China.

“By hosting its exposition, Karamay has played a role in advancing cooperation advancement among Central Asian groups and has also increased its global influence as a well-known petroleum city,” said Qian Minghua, another vice-mayor of Karamay.

Some 450 enterprises are expected to set up booths in a 35,000-square-meter area in Karamay to display their latest equipment to over 35,000 visitors.
