Celebration activities took place in Hechi-based Guangxi Modern Vocational Technology College on March 24, to celebrate the Shangsi Festival.

The Shangsi Festival, falling on March 30 this year, is a festival that is observed by Chinese ethnic groups including Han and Zhuang, to ward off evil spirits and natural disasters.

A variety of performances were held including Guangxi folk songs, bamboo dancing, embroidered ball playing, and stilt-walking, displaying the traditions in the Zhuang autonomous region.

As the birthplace of the famous folk singer Liu Sanjie, Hechi continues to flourish in its folk song-related culture. The Guangxi Theater pays the city regular visits and perform classic operas based on the life story of Liu.
