A post-90s couple were holding Han-style wedding at Huguang Guild.

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- “To hold your hand and grow old with you” is a life commitment and “To cut a wisp of hair and believe each other forever” is the commitment in marriage. Why cut a wisp of hair?

Recently, a grant Han-style wedding was held in Huguang Guild. Bridegroom Gong Xinyu, wearing black and red dress, tangled a wisp of hair of his and his wife’s together as their token of love.

Gong said that holding a Han-style wedding was the decision made by him and his wife. Both of them love traditional Chinese culture. Since his name is Gong Xinyu (龚心宇) and his wife’s name is Wang Yibing (王一冰), their marriage token is a totem composed of Chinese characters of “一片冰心在玉壶”.

The Han-style wedding is solemn and grand. Before wedding, the bride will select groom by throwing a ball and then have the ceremony to worship ancestors. The wedding contains 5 steps: Tonglao, Hejin, Jieying, Jiefa and Zhishou.

Gong said wedding was the most important stage in life. Though he and his wife are both post-90s, they love traditional Chinese culture and wanted to hold a Han-style wedding to remember the most important moment of life.

Five important steps in Han-style wedding

Tonglao: Groom and bride eat the meat of same animal. In ancient times, men and women shall not have meal on same table and use same tableware from 7 years old. So, this step at wedding is quiet solemn.

Hejin: Groom and bride drink wine with each half of a calabash, the original “cross-cupped wine”. This indicates that they become one on the wedding day.

Jieying: Groom ties a red tassel on bride’s hair when engaged and unties it on the wedding day.

Jiefa: Groom and bride respectively cut one wisp of hair from their left side and tangle them together, indicating their forever love.
